Encouraged by his parents, he began his musical studies with his father and perfected his knowledge at the National Conservatory of Mexico. In that last campus he was a disciple of Alberto Salas (1963-1966). He participated in various guitar improvement courses, and in 1976 he received first place in the National Guitar Works Competition held in Paracho.
